The Canine Cookie Company
Meet Stephanie Farrar, Owner of The Canine Cookie Company
Ice Skating is her passion. She describes herself as a feminist. Her calling is to support women. She’s a mother and a grandmother. Her favorite dog breed? German Shepherd.
Stephanie Farrar is co-owner of The Canine Cookie Company in downtown McKinney. For 18 years, The Canine Cookie Company has sold healthy, homemade dog treats and pet accessories.
How was the Canine Cookie Company created?
In the early 2000s, dogs were getting sick and dying due to tainted dog treats from China. Refusing to put her pup’s life at risk, she began making treats for her beloved German Shepherd, Sherman. Sherman approved of the recipe and Stephanie liked how healthy the treats were. “Hmmm. I wonder if I could sell these to pet parents?” Stephanie sold the treats at farmer’s markets, trade shows, and store owners put her product in their stores in downtown McKinney. As is said, the rest, “is history.”
The Canine Cookie Company recently moved to a larger location in downtown McKinney. “Puptarts,” “Nilla Woofers,” and CBD infused cookies are all yummy (yes, I have tasted them.) Treats are made from white and wheat flour, canola oil, brewer’s yeast, and, depending on the flavor, low sodium beef broth or chicken broth, sweet potato, or pumpkin puree. There are no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives. Treats are available in four flavors: chicken, beef, sweet potato, and pumpkin.
How does she fulfill her calling to support women?
She employees stay at home moms to bake the dog treats. Her eyes light up and she speaks a little quicker when she talks about this. It is life-giving to her that The Canine Cookie Company is a “vehicle for women to make money.” She is especially happy that during the pandemic, she was able to provide employment to women.
What business advice does she share? “Listen to your customers.”
“I have a joyful life. I am surrounded by dogs and dog lovers.”
