Packin Method
Is your pup “counter surfing?” Maybe your pup is chewing your shoes or chomping on a sofa leg. Or maybe your pup is recovering from surgery? Maybe a torn ACL and the treatment is to “take it easy” instead of surgery. The Packin Method can help your fur baby.
The Packin Method offers wellness sessions that include Slatmill (dog treadmill) workouts, massage therapy, fitness and bodywork, and dog walking. In short, it’s a mobile canine gym! The Packin Method is not just one of the four facets, but all of the facets on a rotating basis.

Nicole is passionate when she talks about the Packin Method. “I’ve spent 25 years caring for dogs. What I’ve seen is that most dogs get into trouble when brains aren’t being utilized.” The Packin Method exercises the brain and the body. They offer a vairy of alternative exercises for those dogs who need a little more than your typical walk. Benefits include confidence building for timid dogs, behavior modification for dogs finding themselves getting into trouble because they are bored, help with weight loss, and rehabilitation from surgery or preventive care for dogs with Degenerative Myelopathy, arthritis, and any all form of dysplasia.
SLATMILL
The treadmills are called “slatmills.” Slatmills are non-motorized treadmills and are only utilized one to two times a week. A slatmill is an excellent alternative to a daily dog walk. Slatmills are low impact aerobics. Nicole can manipulate the setting for the perfect workout for your pup. However, the pup must figure out how to get the slatmill to move. This is how the slatmill exercises your dog’s body AND brain. However, because bones are not fully fused in most dogs until the age of 2, pups must be over two years old to run full speed on the slatmill.
The benefits of a slatmill:
- Builds confidence
- Is continuous, non-impact exercise
- Is controlled and offers customized workouts
- All weather friendly
MASSAGE THERAPY
Canine massage is a hands-on therapy that manipulates your pup’s soft tissue to prevent and alleviate pain, muscle spasms, and discomfort in the same way massage benefits humans.
BODYWORK
The third facet of the Packin Method is canine fitness and conditioning. The goals are to:
- Build core strength, balance, and muscle tone
- Decrease the likelihood of injury
- Improve mobility
Using the dog’s bodyweight and canine exercise equipment, bodywork is great for pups of all sizes, ages, and breeds.
WALKS
There are numerous benefits of regular walks:
- Improved digestive and urinary health
- Avoids obesity
- Minimizes stress
- Strengthens the bond between you and your pup
- Reduces boredom and destructiveness
